Missouri is Bucking the Trend

A recent report from the Death Penalty Information Center stated that while the nation seems to be rethinking the death penalty, Missouri has actually increased its number of executions and even overtaken Texas with the highest per-capita execution rate. Missouri and Texas combined have carried out the last 15 executions in the nation, but recently even Texas has slowed down.

In 2009, Missouri ranked 49th out of the fifty states in per-capita spending on indigent defense. Missouri was assessed in 2012 by the American Bar Association and found to have numerous failings in their execution process, including illegally obtaining the highly controversial lethal injection drugs.
